Should Tik-Tok be banned?

The american state of Montana banned TikTok, and many american and european states and nations are thinking of following. But what are the Pros and Cons of this social media platform that many gen-z at our school and around the world use?

One of the Pros is that people whose strengths aren’t useful for most jobs (or aren’t really cared about in school) can become successful, although this is more of an argument for social media or the internet in total than TikTok alone. This platform was also different from most other social media platforms, because its main content is short videos. This was before Youtube Shorts and to an extent Netflix’s “Fast Laughs” arrived. The alternatives are an argument against it. However many TikTokers only post partial videos on Shorts or Vice Versa. This is a problem for the people interested in the content of a specific influencer. There are also political arguments for the banning of this platform in the US and EU. As the company that owns TikTok (ByteDance) is chinese, many journalists and politicians (and normal people) don’t know what happens to the users data, and more importantly if the company has to give the data to the chinese government if it asks. There are regulations in Europe and North America about what data for example Meta has to give to governments and what they can refuse, we don’t know what the regulations are in China if this happens. This is the main reason why it was banned in Montana.

Choose for yourself: should TikTok be banned or not? I have to say though, I expect most of you to say no, based on the fact that you use it all the time.
